The church service tagged: “A Day with Jesus for Nigeria In Israel,” had in attendance state governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, led by the Senate Deputy President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, clergymen and regular pilgrims to the Holy Land.
The church service was the climax of a fast observed by over 3, 000 Nigerian pilgrims in Israel, including President Jonathan. The church service, which kicked off with prayers, hymns and songs, was led by high ranking clergymen, including the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. CRISIS rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP took another turn yesterday, as the Police stormed the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja where the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led new PDP, including opposition governors were holding a meeting and chased them out. A few hours before the group assembled at the Sokoto Governor’s lodge, it had cried out that the government had started a clampdown on the businesses of its members as well threatening their lives.
Having been prevented from holding their meeting at the Sokoto Governor’s lodge, members of the group reassembled at the Kano State Governor’s lodge where the meeting eventually held.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State chapter has

Renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has refuted
reports that he is a member of the Elders’ Forum of the Goodluck Support

political organisation.
Denouncing his membership of the 44-man Goodluck Support Group at his Bauchi residence, Sheikh Usman said nobody ever contacted him as to whether or not he wanted to be part of the group.
It would be recalled that the 44-man Goodluck Support Group recently inaugurated in Abuja had the name of Sheikh Dahiru Usman included as reported by some national dailies.

Quit PDP Now And Stop Distracting Jonathan, Northern Group Tells G-7 Govs
08:35:00 Unknown 0 CommentsThe Arewa Peoples Patriotic Front on Saturday urged the G-7 governors and the faction of Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, led by Abubakar Kawu Baraje to quit the ruling party if they are dissatisfied with happenings in the party.
The APPFront also urged them to seek legal redress rather than distract President Goodluck Jonathan from executing his electoral mandate.
Speaking at a news conference in Kaduna, National Chairman of the group, Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim, said the one term pact purportedly agreed upon between Mr. Jonathan and PDP governors in 2011 was undemocratic, unconstitutional and therefore null and void.
Ibrahim said, “On the barrage of attacks on the office and the person of President Goodluck Jonathan over his yet to be announced ambition for 2015, it is obvious that majority of those launching these attacks are not democrats while the rest are only out to seek undue relevance.
“It is not democratic or constitutional to ask President Jonathan to drop the ambition, if he desires to contest the 2015 presidential election. It is every Nigerian’s constitutional right to seek election into any office in Nigeria and President Goodluck Jonathan is not an exception.
“To the best of our knowledge, there is no provision in the 1999 constitution as amended that prevents President Goodluck Jonathan and his vice from seeking re-election in 2015. Anyone who is in doubt or feels strongly about this is free to put the provision to test in the courts of our land.
Ibrahim assured the president that majority of the masses in the country are pleased with his performance in office.
“The masses and the many highly respected Nigerians, who are in the majority, are urging him (Jonathan), as their constitutional right, to seek re-election in 2015”, the APPFront chairman said.
“It is not an attribute of a genuine democratic practice, democracy and democrats to deny anyone his or her constitutional right to contest elections. If it actually happened, it was a wicked blackmail for anybody to have asked President Jonathan in 2011 to sign an agreement that he would not contest in 2015.
“Such an agreement therefore, is a nullity because it was signed under duress and without the knowledge and consent of Nigerians. That too is not democratic. Every eligible person is free to test his or her popularity with the electorate who reserve the right to decide his or her fate. Therefore, let the Nigerian voters decide President Jonathan’s fate in 2015 and not Kawu Baraje and the G7 governors”, Ibrahim stated.

The
political crisis in Rivers State took a fresh turn on Friday following a
petition by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to the National
Human Rights Commission over the continued abuse of human rights in the
state.
Amaechi had in the petition addressed to
the Director-General of the Commission and copied the Chairman,
Professor Chidi Odinkalu, explained that the clampdown on human rights
in the state had also affected him and the people of the state.
He also urged the NHRC to probe the
wasteful, uncoordinated and duplication of security operations devoid of
the synergy that was the norm before the arrival of State Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu.
The governor lamented that the promotion
and protection of human rights through the rule of law and good
governance had been made impossible in the state as a result of the
erosion of the basic human rights.
The governor said, “There are on-going
human rights violations in Rivers state falling within the investigative
and other duties of the National Human Rights Commission.
“Abuses, which need the independent and
human rights competences and capabilities of the National Human Rights
Commission as ably demonstrated in your ground breaking engagement of
the Baga incident and the situation in North East Nigeria bears many
striking resemblance to the situation in Rivers State.”
Amaechi warned that there could be grave
consequences to the people of the state and the Niger Delta region in
general if the declining human rights situation in the state was not
addressed urgently.
Explaining that the petition was not
politically motivated, the governor maintained that its objective was
consistent with the constitution of the country.
He also expressed the need for the probe into the dismantling of strategic public security networks processes within the state
