Proposed Confab designed to divert attention from real issues, Ex-customs boss
Renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has refuted
reports that he is a member of the Elders’ Forum of the Goodluck Support
Group (GSG), saying he is unaware of his involvement in such a
political organisation.
Denouncing his membership of the 44-man Goodluck Support Group at his
Bauchi residence, Sheikh Usman said nobody ever contacted him as to
whether or not he wanted to be part of the group.
It would be recalled that the 44-man Goodluck Support Group recently
inaugurated in Abuja had the name of Sheikh Dahiru Usman included as
reported by some national dailies.
Bauchi who wondered how his name was smuggled into the membership of the
group without his consent queried, “I don’t know what the person that
put my name into the membership of the body want to achieve”.
“To God, I confess I’m not part of the membership of Elders’ Forum of
the Goodluck Support Group as recently reported by the media”, the
Sheikh told newsmen in Bauchi yesterday.
He however attributed the inclusion of his name into the membership of
the Goodluck Support Group to the architect of those who have already
dented their image but want to re-brand same by all means possible.
Usman explained that he is not a politician and could therefore not
involve himself in such a partisan political organisation, saying Allah
will arbitrate between him and whoever dragged his name into the group.
On insecurity bedeviling the country, the Sheikh attributed the whole
issue on bad leadership noting, “Whatever befalls us is our own
handiwork”.
He therefore urged Nigerians to atone from their bad deeds by seeking
for Allah’s forgiveness and pray for the salvation of the country from
the mounting challenges of insecurity, abject poverty, education
bastardization, and other social vices that retard national progress,
growth and development.
