News: Anambra begins voter education

Anambra State Government has commenced a tour aimed
at sensitising the youths and eligible voters on the need to come out
enmasse to vote on November 16.
Over 10 Local Governments have been covered which include, Aguata,
Orumba North and South, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North and South, Ogbaru, Onitsha
 North and South among others.
Briefing newsmen in Awka, the Special Assistant to Governor Peter Obi
on Youth Mobilisation, Hon Nduka Alor who superintended the tour said,
the exercise is to harmonise the youths in Anambra to be under one
umbrella irrespective of the party affiliation.
He said the voter education will enable the youths especially some of
them in the hinterlands to know that voting is their power, right and
franchise.
“Apart from the harmonisation and voter education, we are also
planning a 10,000 match by the Anambra State youths which will be drawn
from the 177 communities across the state. The 10,000 match will be in
solidarity to the APGA candidate, Chief Willie Obiano and we intend to
trek round the major cities in Anambra State, praying and asking God to
give us another person who will perform better than Gov. Peter Obi. The
scripture tasks us to pray for our leaders as that is the only means of
enthroning good governance and its sustenance.
“Secondly, we intend to also announce to the youths that His
Excellency, Mr Peter Obi (CON) who have been empowering the youths over
the years is now set to empower the youths especially now that they have
 come together under one umbrella.
The 500 people earlier trained will first be empowered. Some of them
were worried since then for the delay in the empowerment but we have
been trying to ensure that the empowerment gets to every youth that was
trained. We are just waiting for the governor to give us a go-ahead
order” he said.
The governor’s aide also savoured the opportunity to advise the
youths to be careful and shun any form of electoral violence, thuggery
or any act that is capable to mar their future even as he enjoined them
to X-ray critically the programmes of the party’s candidates to identify
those that have good plan for the youths adding that Chief Willie
Obiano has so far proven to be the best in terms of youth agenda.
“Youths vote is so significant because they have about 52 percent
voting strength which is the largest voting power in the state as was
shown in the recent voters’ register published by INEC” he submitted.
