The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olufemi Adenaike, on Friday urged banks operating in the state to support policemen with gadgets that would help deter robbery attacks.

Adenaike, who made the call in a meeting with the bank managers in Kaduna, appealed to them to provide bullet proof vests and armour personnel carriers to the police, and to instal effective alarm systems in their banks.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting followed recent attacks by gunmen on banks across the state.

Gunmen had in the last two weeks carried out robbery attacks on banks in Saminaka and Makarfi, killing at least two people and carting away undisclosed sums of money.

The commissioner said the banks should help in securing their operations by installing security cameras to assist the police in their surveillance work.

He directed the managers to bar motorcycle operators from entering their bank premises, saying that some of the motorcyclists serve as agents of criminal.

Adenaike advised the banks to employ only certified security men working with recognised security agencies as guards, to avoid hiring criminals.

The commissioner called on the bank managers to adhere strictly to the rules and regulation guiding cash flow in banks, as set by the Central Bank of Nigeria, to minimise the risk of attack.

“Central bank has limited the amount of money that should be kept in the bank even at night, so try and remit them and try to control the cash in your banks.”

Adenaike told the managers to be security conscious and report any criminal case to the police without delay. (NAN)
